Ushers

The usher’s role in the Church dates all the way back to ancient Rome. As Christians were a persecuted minority and gathering for worship was punishable by death, ushers (then known as “porters”) played the important role of making sure spies would not enter the place of worship. While the need to worry about enemies invading the church to send us to our death has abated, ushers nonetheless still perform an important role.

Ushers not only welcome people to the church as they come to worship, but they also help people find their seat, attend to those who may have special needs, and assist those who may become ill during Mass. If you are interested in becoming an usher, please contact the parish office for more information.
