It’s Only the Beginning!
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (John 1:1)
“In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless wasteland.” (Gen 1:1-2) When I think of the creation story, I’m reminded that God created this world in a specific and deliberate order. God had a plan. In each of the six days of creation there is a new beginning taking place. For us, each season is in a sense a new beginning.
I think most people experience a change to their everyday routine when September comes, some more drastic than others. I’m not only referring to the changing of seasons, the colorful leaves, shorter days, the end of summer vacations and the cooler temperatures. I’m speaking of the changes in families with children, it is a time for the beginning of school, homework, enforced bedtimes, juggling schedules and extra curricular activities. Just when we think that life can’t get any busier, it does. Life is full of new beginnings both great and small.
The last few months have been crazy but amazing! We have 42 High School youth on our New TFC Leadership team, the biggest team we have had so far! They are incredible young people and inspire me in their dedication to our parish, their faith and to God! They are very busy teens but they find time to share the Lord with others. They have some new and exciting ideas to shake things up a little! In addition, we are starting accountability groups within the Team!
We have already had our first Middle School event, Souled Out! It was a great hit with 47 Middle School youth in attendance. Our High School youth group, LIFTED is also underway and has been successful in engaging the High School youth. Our Discipleship Groups and Faith Formation classes are also in full swing and teens are excited to dive deeper into their faith! It’s very easy to get caught up in the busyness of life. However I am hopeful that these teens know that all they need to do is keep the main thing, the main thing and they will be able to take on whatever comes their way. What’s the main thing? Jesus is the Main Thing!
Even though some of the events listed above aren’t brand new to our program here at STFX, every year is a new year, a new beginning. Everything we do has a specific and deliberate purpose to bring youth closer to Christ. All we need to do is be faithful and follow His plan. God never allows us to stay in the same place for very long. He makes all things new. I’m looking forward to see where God is going to take us this year because today is only the beginning!
